JS Monthly #65, July Meetup

30 Jul

7:00 pm Busuu, 50 Finsbury Square, London

This event will be kindly hosted & sponsored by Busuu

18:15 – Doors open. Pizza and drinks are served

18:45 – Welcome to the Wonderful World of Busuu Frontend // Celia Usero

19:00 – Angular, Cypress, Cucumber with CI and CD // Eddie Jaoude / Andrew Cunliffe

Best practices are not hard or costly. However, the consequences of delaying these things typically are. How often have you heard or said “it’s ok we will add the tests later” but later never comes around while everyone is firefighting…we will talk about best practices and show how simple it is to set up a project from scratch including automated testing and deployment with; Cypress, Cucumber and Circle CI

19:40 – 100% CSS Mario Kart // Stephen Cook

Do you enjoy CSS? Do you enjoy retro games? Have you ever wanted to combine the 2, in such a way that the CSS Working Group will cry and ask you to stop? Then this is the talk for you!

This talk will go over some cool CSS features and techniques, and pushes them to their limits. You will learn how to use some of these techniques in the real world (and hopefully when not to use them, such as in a mad attempt to clone a beloved retro game with a wildly unsuitable toolset).

20:05 – xMatters Introduction

20:10 – Next.js: The React Framework // Tim Neutkens – Zeit

63% of npm users are using React. Making it the most popular JavaScript framework ever. React is being used everywhere from your favorite websites and web applications to maybe your personal website. However building fast and scaleable React applications is complex. There are many pieces that have to come together, from compilation to optimization to developer experience. Furthermore there are many strategies in which websites and applications are being built today, for example statically prerendering, server-rendering and client-side only rendering. Let’s explore how Next.js solves all of these problems for you.

Please give us enough notice if you can’t make it so that other people can take your place.

If you have a talk we’d love to hear from you.
