JS Monthly, May Event

23 May 2018

6:00 pm IG Index, Cannon Bridge House, 25 Dowgate Hill, London EC4R 2YA

Please note: The event is hosted by IG. The program will be as usual:

18:00 – Door open and pizza (and beer) is served

19:00 – Recursion: Recursion() \ Lucas Da Costa

Recursion might seem very simple, but it is something fascinating to explore. In this talk, we’ll dive deep into how recursion works, how to better visualise it and how our JavaScript engines deal with. It’s time for us to end all the confusion about PTC, TCO, and STC.

19:45 – The Present Future of User Interface Development \ Jani Eväkallio

After years of framework wars, we now live in an era of unprecedented productivity, prosperity and peace. Our tools are better than ever, and we can focus on building products.

But the future is far from certain. New technological innovation just keeps on happening — new technologies (WebAssembly), new user experience modalities (AR/VR?), and new trends (functional programming) make it hard for us to maintain stability.

This talk explores ways to keep being productive at times of turmoil and trouble.

// Speaker Bio’s

Jani, a veteran of the Frontend Framework wars, has earned his battle scars writing JavaScript on the bleeding edge for the last decade. Today, he leads a team building cross-stack mobile and web apps at Formidable London.

He gets childishly excited about beautiful user interactions and design tools. In his spare time, he performs improvised comedy and speaks at conferences advocating for the React ecosystem, particularly React Native and GraphQL.

Lucas da Costa is a Brazilian software engineer who breathes JavaScript and is passionate about open source. He is a core team member of Chai.js and Sinon.js, two of the most popular libraries in the JS ecosystem, and is always trying to find better and more efficient ways to solve problems. “Strive to be lazy”, this is his motto.

20:30 – A visit to the local pub
